Cataractes top Mooseheads
Screaming Eagles double Tigres

The Halifax Mooseheads finished their modest three-game road trip on a losing note. But they’ll return home with their heads held high.

Halifax dropped a 3-2 decision to the Shawinigan Cataractes in Quebec major junior hockey action Saturday evening in Shawinigan, Que.

The Mooseheads may have only picked up two of a possible six points during the trip but they could have easily earned more. After beating Lewiston 6-5 in a shootout on Wednesday, Halifax fell 3-1 at Quebec with the Remparts scoring a late third-period goal to seal the victory.

On Saturday, the Mooseheads trailed by one heading into the third period and outshot the Cataractes 14-4 in the final frame but couldn’t beat Shawinigan goalie Gabriel Girard.

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Philippe Paradis and Dave Labrecque each netted a goal and an assist for the Cataractes (25-20-3-4). Antoine Houde-Caron had the other goal.

Andrew Wigginton and Linden Bahm answered for the Mooseheads, who failed to gain any ground on the idle Maineiacs, who hold down the 16th and final playoff berth.

Halifax, last in the league with an 11-37-1-3 record, trails Lewiston by 13 points. The Maineiacs have a game in hand.

Mathieu Corbeil made 25 saves in the Halifax goal.

The Mooseheads will next face the league-leading Saint John Sea Dogs at the Metro Centre next Friday night.

Screaming Eagles 4, Tigres 2: Cape Breton scored three unanswered goals late in the third to earn a comeback victory over Victoriaville.

At Sydney, the Tigres held a 2-1 lead midway through the final frame before Luke Adam tied it at the 12:26 mark. Nick MacNeil gave the Eagles the lead with 4:21 remaining on the clock. Adam sealed the win with his team-leading 32nd goal with 37 seconds left into an empty net.

Olivier Roy made 26 saves for the Eagles (29-18-2-3).

Brandon Hynes and Samuel Groulx scored for Victoriaville (34-16-1-1).

Sea Dogs 11, Foreurs 0: At Saint John, N.B., 16-year-old rookie Jonathan Huberdeau recorded his first career QMJHL hat trick as the host side whitewashed Val-d’Or (18-28-4-1).

Mike Hoffman, with his league-leading 33rd goal, Tomas Jurco, Gabriel Bourret, Michael Kirkpatrick, Nicholas Pard, Danick Gauthier, Zack Phillips and Stanislav Galiev each had a goal for Saint John (42-8-1-0). Marco Cousineau picked up the shutout.

Rocket 4, Titan 2: At Charlottetown, Eric Bouchard collected a goal and an assist as P.E.I. (29-18-2-4) doubled Acadie-Bathurst (18-30-3-2).
